Am. Farm Bureau annual
meeting set for Jan. 8-12
PARK RIDGE, 111. -
Secretary of Agriculture Bob
Bergland, Congressman
John Rhodes of Arizona, and
Congresswoman Mrs. Haven
Smith of Nebraska have
accepted invitations to
appear on the program of the
American Farm Bureau
Federation’s annual
meeting. The meeting is
scheduled in Houston,
January 8 through 12, 1978.
Secretary Bergland and
Congressman Rhodes will
address the General
Sessions of the Federation on
Monday and Tuesday
respectively. Mrs. Smith will
address the American Farm
Bureau Women’s conference
on Monday afternoon,
January 9.
The meeting will open on
Sunday with a vesper ser-
vice scheduled for 4 p.m.
with Dr. John Stevens,
president of Abilene
Christian University
bringing the message. The A
Capella Chrous of the
university will provide
music for the vespers.
Also scheduled tor Sunday
afternoon is the Discussion
Meet sponsored by the
AFBF Young Farmers and
Ranchers committee with
the finals coining at 8 p.m.
As part of the discussion
finals there will be a
recognition for the retiring
members of the committee.
Awards will be made also to
three outstanding young
farm couples selected from
approximately 25 state
nominees.
Monday morning’s
general session will feature
Lancaster Farming, Saturday, December 10,1977
a welcome to Texas by
Govenor Dolph Briscoe,
AFBF President Allan
Grant’s annual address and
Secretary Bergland’s ad
dress. Music for the morning
session will be by the Murk
Family of Wheaton, Illinois.
Monday afternoon will be
devoted to a series of special
interest conferences among
these being: Farm Bureau
Women, Beef Cattle, Cotton,
Horticultural Crops,
Organization, Poultry, and
Wheat and Feed Grain.
Also Monday afternoon at
4:30 will be an open session
of the Resolutions Com
mittee.
On Tuesday morning
Congressman John Rhodes
of Arizona will address the
convention and AFBF Chief
Administrator and
Secretary Richard Owens
will make his annual report
to the members. On the
same program, awards for
Distinguished Service to
American Agriculture will
be presented.
Tuesday afternoon will
again be devoted to special
interest conferences in
cluding; Dairy, Insurance
Programs, Local Affairs
Programs, Marketing,
Natural and Environmental
Resources, Rice, Soybean,
Swine, and Safemark
Programs.
One of the highlights of the
annual meeting will be the
Tuesday evening
Recognition and Awards
Program at which states
which have made out
standing progress in several
areas such as marketing,
local affairs and mem
bership will be given special
recognition. Entertainment
will be provided by Dale
Evans, Roy Rogers, Jr. and
the Sons of the Pioneers.
Singer Debbie Robert and
the Buddy Brock Band will
also be featured in the two
hour program of awards and
entertainment.
The recognition and
awards program will be
followed by a dance with
music by the Buddy Brock
Band.
Thursday will mark the
start of the business session
of the convention with the
seating of the delegates from
the state Farm Bureaus.
Adoption of organization
policies by the voting
delegates is slated to be
completed by noon of
Thursday. During this
business session, officers
will be elected for two years
and elections will be held for
Board of Directors vacan
cies.
