Mid-Atlantic crop meetings scheduled
COLLEGE PARK, Md. -
A big fire last summer,
which caused $5 million
damage to the Wicomico
Youth and Civic Center at
Salisbury, has triggered
relocation of the fourth
annual Delmarva corn
technology conference on
Dec. 8, 1977, and the twelfth
annual Delmarva soybean
meeting on Feb. 2, 1978, to
the Ocean City Convention
Hall in Ocean City, Md.
However, the Peninsula
Horticultural Society will
stick with tradition and hold
its ninety-first annual
meeting on Dec. 5 and 6 in
the new Midway room
section of the fire-damaged
building at Salisbury.
Meanwhile, the fourth
annual Mid-Atlantic No-
Tillage convention will
return on Jan. 5,1978, to the
Hunt Valley Inn near
Cockeysville, which was the
site of its first meeting in
1975. The 1977 meeting had
been held at Gettysburg,
Pa., and the 1979 meeting is
tentaively scheduled at
Lancaster, Pa.
Free tickets for the noon
meal at the two Ocean City
meetings are available from
county Extension offices and
selected agribusiness
locations throughout the
Delmarva area. They should
be picked up no later than
the Friday preceding the
meeting.
Luncheon arrangements
for the Peninsula Hor
ticultural Society meeting in
Salisbury are, as usual,
made on a “Dutch treat”
basis at nearby restaurants.
The Mid'Atlantic No-
Tillage convention north of
Baltimore will depart from
its past practice of free
tickets. This year, tickets for
the noon lunch will cost $2
each. They must be pur
chased in advance at county
Extension offices. Par
ticipating states include
Delaware, Maryland, New
Jersey, Pennsylvania,
Virginia and West Virginia.
Based on past years, more
than 1,000 persons are ex
pected to attend each of the
Delmarva farmer
educational meetings at the
Ocean City Convention Hall.
Nearly 1,000 persons are
also estimated for a full
house capacity during the
Mid-Atlantic No-Till meeting
at the Hunt Valley Inn on
Jan. 5.
Programs highlights for
the four regional meetings
are as follows: Peninsula
