Wolff, a Westmoreland County dairyman and community leader, Tuesday night was presented the distinguished service award of the Pennsylvania Far mer’s Association (PFA). Also, the Franklin County Farmers’ Association was named the top county for overall program achievement for 1977. Both awards were presented Tuesday night along with 20 other program awards at the PFA’s annual awards banquet which was held in conjunction with the group’s four-day convention here at the Penn Harris Motor Inn. PFA is a general farm organization with 21,723 family members in the state. It has 53 local units and is affiliated with the American Farm Bureau Federation. Boyd Wolff owns and operates a large dairy farm in Westmoreland County, near New Alexandria. His farm consists of 421 acres and a dairy herd of 150 registered Holstems. He has appeared on numerous TV and radio shows to discuss agriculture, and has been source of many newspaper articles. The Wolfden Farm, operated by Wolff, has been opened to the public on many occasions, to local school children, Pittsburgh inner city children, service clubs, cub scouts and many foreign groups. Wolff has held many state and national positions with professional agricultural groups, and has won numerous awards for community service. Franklin County Farmers' Association was designated the “all star” county for operating the best overall program for their mem bership. Joel Wenger of Greencastle and president of the local unit, accepted the award. The association took individual program awards for advisory council, in formation, insurance,! national legislation,! marketing, commodity and took first place in overall program achievement for local units with more than 400 family members. Mercer Association - First in overall achievement for local units with membership between 251 and 400, and first place for Policy Development (William Cannon of Sharon). Armstrong Association - Second in overall achievement for local units with membership in the under 250 member category (Bernard A. Goodheart of Dayton).
