—Lancaster Farming, Saturday, November 5,1977 30 Farming always appealled to Glenn Bollinge By KEND ACE BORRY LEBANON - If Glenn Bollinger, Lebanon R 5, had to pick his favorite part of farming, it would be driving the tractors. But he also likes to drive the other pieces of farm machinery, and he likes field work, and planting the field crops, and harvesting, and filling silos, and milking cows. In short, he really likes farming although he will admit that sometimes there does seem **■ be a few too many heifer pens to clean. The American Farmer degree for Agribusiness winner grew up on the farm of his parents, Mr and Mrs. Robert Bollmger. He still works on their farm, and hopes someday to operate it himself. Besides being a farmer, he is also employed by the Evergreen Tractor Com pany, Inc , Lebanon, Pa , where he is a tractor mechanic. There he has his own service truck to go on service calls, and works m the shop on tractors, bailers, and combines. Throughout the year, he averages bet ween 40 and 50 hours of work a week. After working hours on that job, however, it’s home to the Bollinger farm of 315 acres. Basically a dairy farm, milking ap proximately 58 cows, he finds plenty of work to keep him busy. He mentioned the help his vo-ag teacher Richard D. Moore, at the Cedar Crest High School, Lebanon, had given to him and said that all his ex periences helped him grow. Some projects Bollinger was involved with included growing 10 acres of corn at school, partaking in speaking contests, being chairman of several com mittees, participating in and winning various tractor driving contests, and being assistant vice president, treasurer, and president of his chaper, as well as county treasurer of the Lebanon Co. FFA Experience on the farm aided Bollinger in his work to become a better farmer. Helping on the farm and being in charge of the farm maintenance he believes were important factors in teaching him valuable knowledge. Other things that he considers important are the classes he had on cow medicines, insecticides and pesticides for crops, and other aspects of farming practices. He enjoyed the agriculture mechanics classes, and thinks the skill he developed in that class I I FLUE PIPE -- BACKSPLASH j ‘ FLUE DAMPER OVEN DAMPER HOTPLATE r \ l 'S 's'S-'"s < V"* ''S , Glenn Bollinger prepares to work on the John Deere Side Hill 6600 Combine, giving its 100 hours service check. contributed greatly to his reading, and stated that winning the American reading can be an important Farmer degree. way of learning.
