Society 1 The monthly meeting of the Berks County Farm Women Society was held at the home of Mrs. Ella Richards, Oley R 2, with 18 ladies present. The group will be having a refreshment stand at the George Thompson’s sale on October 22. Arrangements were made for the group’s Christmas Party that will be held December 7 at the Olde State Bam, Oley. On November 10 there will be a bingo party at Berks Heim. A table of gift ideas and decorations for the holidays will be arranged for display at the Lancaster Co. Homemakers Day, Novembers. Mrs. Doris Thomas, Lancaster County Extension Service, presented a demonstration “Creative Foods for Entertaming,” as the program for the evening. The next meeting will be November 19 at the Salem Lutheran Church, Ephrata. Mrs. Irene Dankers will be hostess. Lancaster Co, Society 8 Lancaster County Farm Women Society 8 met at the home of Arlme Witman and Mary Sarver, Mt. Joy R 2, on October 13 at 7:30 p.m. Kathryn Heisey, the society president was in charge. The special feature of the evening was given by Mrs. Betty Jo Heisey, Penryn who demonstrated various ways of gift wrapping. Several members joined another group in sewing 122 pieces and mending 21 pieces at the General Hospital on Oct. 6. A Sunshine Box was presented to a shut-in member, Anna Mae Eby. Refreshments were provided by hostesses Mary Sarver, Arline Witman, Anna Shank, Belle Garber and Georgiana Fomey. Delegates going to the County Convention at INTEREST Harrisburg are Kathryn Heisey, Vera Frey, and Margaret Heisey. Society 18 Lancaster County Farm Women Society 18 met at the home of Mrs. Earl Diem, Valley Road, on October 15. The speaker, Lester Hostetter, Mt. 'Joy, spoke about raising chrysan themums. The president, Mrs Harold Kunmel, reminded members of the Lancaster County Convention to be held November 5 at the Farm and Home Center, Lancaster. Homemaker’s Day will be held at the same location on Novembers. It was voted to contribute $lO.OO to the United Way. The delegates were selected to attend the State Farm Show Convention January 9 and 10 in Harrisburg. They are Mrs. Raymond Stoner, Mrs. John Henry Hess, Mrs. Hohn Hess, and Mrs. Wayne Brubaker. The next meeting will be held November 19 at the Hempfield Church of the Brethren when Mrs. Wilbert Carper will be hostess. (Continued on Page 57)
