96—Lancaster Farming, Saturday, October 15,1977 Lancaster Co. 4-H leaders honored at banquet ByKENDACEBORRY LANCASTER - Over 200 people attended the Lan caster County 4-H Leadership Banquet held October 11 at the Lancaster Farm and Home Center. Leaders, Extension workers, teen leaders, and interested persons heard Frank Bortz, of the state 4-H staff of Penn State, speak on marching to the beat of leadership. - Bortz spoke on the ini portance of leaders caring, and of being someone that 4- H’ers can relate to. He mentioned that 4-H is the largest youth organization m the world, and that for it to remain so, leaders must face the challenge of involving youth and making the 4-H program interesting and up to-date. Leaders were recognized for years of service, to 4-H with pins being awarded to those serving five, ten, 15,30, and 35 years. Included were; Mrs. Dorothy Fry, Stevens HI, 35 years; Mylm Good, Mount Joy R 2, and Mrs. John Nissley, Mount Joy Rl, 30 years; Elam Bollinger, Manheim R 7, Clarence Stauffer, Ephrata Rl, and Mrs. Evelyn Hess, Strasburg Rl, each 15 years. Mrs. Nissley has served as a leader with the Mount Joy Home Economics Club, the Lampeter and Landisville cooking and sewing clubs, and helped form the county photography club. Good has been involved with the Red Rose 4-H Beef and Lamb club throughout his leadership years. Both Bollinger and Stauffer have been involved with the Lancaster County 4- H Holstein Club for the past fifteen years. Recognized for serving 4-H program from 23 to 33 years of service were: Elmer Boyd, Ephrata R 5, 23 years; Melvin Peifer, Manheim Rl, 23 years; Mrs. Lewis Bixler, Marietta Rl; Milton Brubaker, Lititz Rl; and Lester Weaver, New Holland Rl; all 24 year leaders; and Fred Linton, Quarryville R 2; 33 years. June Grube, Manheim, and Kerry Boyd, Ephrata, who serve as co-presidents of the Lancaster County 4-H Council, were awarded the “I Dare You Awards” for their leadership. The food and clothing awards, sponsored by Lancaster County Farm Women Society 19 were awarded to Rohm Esben shade, Manheim, and June Grube. Also recognized at the banquet were 38 teen leaders of 4-H for their service and work.
