LANCASTER, Pa. - A call
for higher farm prices and
for financial aid to new
farmers were the major
topics of discussion at the
recent annual policy
meeting of the Lancaster
County Farmers Union.
Meeting at the Holiday Inn
near Lancaster on October
10, the farm group members
reviewed the present
economic crisis facing
American agriculture. They
approved a motion calling
for farm prices to be set at
not less than 100 per cent of
the cost of production with a
fair profit for farmers.
Expressing concern for
the future of the family farm
the members called for
better state programs to aid

beginning farmers. They
approved a motion calling
for the establishment of an
Agriculture Development
Program to provide
financial aid to new farmers
m much the same way the
state provides financial
assistance for new industry.
Other farm policy
positions approved included
a call for more farmer
participation in development
of state regulations affecting
agriculture; opposition to
corporate encroachment in
agriculture; support for the

State Senate; and support
for a change in state law
affecting farm land con
demnation.
The organization also
elected officers for the
coming year. Albert
Melhnger of Strasburg was
re-elected president; James
Spahr, Neffsville, was re
elected vice-president, and
Mrs. Naomi Spahr Lititz R 6,
was elected secretary
treasurer.
