—Lancaster Farming, Saturday, October 15,1977 36 Lancaster County youths win TIMONIUM, Md - Youth from Lancaster County placed high in the recent Eastern National Livestock Show held at Timomum, Maryland In the market lamb event, they dominated the scene, winning all but a single reserve grand championship in the event. Sarah Lynn Brubaker, the daughter of Mr and Mrs. Clyde Brubaker, Lancaster, showed the grand champion market lamb of the show. The lamb exhibited was a 115 pound Suffolk wether The grand champion pair of market lambs were shown by Christian Herr, the son of Dr. and Mrs Robert Herr, Narvon R 2. His two Hamp shire lambs weighed 210 pounds Barbara Herr, the sister of Christian, had the reserve grand champion pair of market lambs, showing Suffolks averaging a weight of 123 pounds. In the interstate livestock judging contest at Timonium, the Lancaster County 4-H team placed fourth, earning 2,383 points of a possible 2,700. Samuel Long, Peach Bottom R 2, was the high individual judge of the 47 contestants entered on 12 different teams. His final scoie was a total 836. points out of a possible 900. Long also was named high individual judge in giving oral reasons for his placmgs and was the contest’s high individual in judging the sheep. Sarah Brubaker was named the second high judge in the beef cattle division. In the judging event, the contestants judged 12 classes of livestock, four of hogs, five of beef, and three of sheep. They were also required to give oral reasons for their class placmgs on ‘ wo classes of each In overall ranking, Miss Brubaker was namer 15th individual, Judy Zim merman, Ephrata Rl, was named 24th, and Debra Carmean 31st. In other sheep results, the Brubakers were named the premier exhibitors in the Hampshire sheep breeding show. This award was presented to the exhibitor winning the most money in the individual and group classes. They had showed the breed champion ram, and taken first place entries with their yearlmg ram, junior ram, yearlmg ewe, pen of four lambs, and breeder’s flock The Herrs also showed the champion and reserve champion Dorset rams and the reserve champion ewe. The National Live Stock and Meat Board has announced recom mendations for the degree of doneness on the Celsius scale for beef, pork, lamb and veal.
