Well the truth is that I do a lot of work when the sun shines. Since Belgium has about 270 days of rain per year you can guess how much sun I have seen since I’ve been here. My first host family, Taelman lived on a 250 acre farm. When the har vesting of the wheat began, I became actively involved in baling straw on 200 acres. Baling 9000 bales of straw seemed to take an eternity, and it’s true when I say we baled from 8:00 a.m. until midnight. It is necessary to work long hours because of the constant fear of rain delaying the work. This year the production was down because of too much ram - the combines were unable to get into the fields. In August we had three weeks of rain, * Owner ' V.
