Gelb, Jr., infected day-old
chicks with the IBDV and
then vaccinated them two
weeks later with either
Newcastle disease, in
fectious bronchitis or in
fectious laryngotracheitis
viruses, they found that
many of the young birds
developed acute respiratory
diease which later

disease could reduce losses

Though not normally fatal
in day-old chicksn, the IBDV
damages the bursa of
fabncus in poultry. This
organ is vital for resistance
to infections of all kinds.
