Heisey By JOANNE SPAHR MANHEIM - This year the Manheim Community Fair boasted a junior market hog show with 108 entries, a record amount which is about 30 animal above last year’s total of 78. Heisey, who is a member of the Elizabethtown Pig and Rabbit Club, showed only two animals at the fair, with his 229 pound animal first named grand champion heavyweight. The five-year showman, who in 1976 exhibited the grand champion hog of the Lancaster County 4-H show, comes from a family of top showmen. Just this year his siblmgs-a twin brother and sister combination-took the grand and reserve grand 11'6'' to 13'10" with choice of 18" or 20" solid or notched crimp center blades • Spring-cushioned hitch is self leveling to absorb shocks, keep blades working at even depth through uneven terrain • Wheel-controlled depth adjust ment, hydraulically operated from tractor • Gangs easily angled to match soil and trash conditions SWOPE & BASHORE champions of the 4-H hog show at Lancaster. A champion pair of market hogs was also picked on Wednesday afternoon. That title went to animals shown by Beth Chapman, tne 12- year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Chapman, Hutch Valley Farm, Manheim R 5. The 200 and 207 pound mediumweight animals that Miss Chapman showed were Yorkshire-Duroc crossbreds, bred and raised at Dutch Valley Farms where her father has been a partner since January. In both her first year on the farm and in 4-H with the Penryn 4-H Club, Miss Chapman had only shown one time previous to the Manheim Fair, where she was also named the first place fitter m the junior division. The reserve champion pair of the show were owned by Robert Strauss. The animals were first named champion heavyweights before going onto the division title. Nelson Breneman, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Amos W. Breneman, Columbia R 2, a member of the Penn Manor FFA chapter, showed the reserve champion mdividual market hog. The 210 pound Duroc was first named champion mediumweight. Breneman, age 15, is a sophomore at Penn Manor High School SQnDJfc. Show.
