CATTLE: Compared with
the previous weeks close.
Closing prices on
slaughter steers were 50-1.00
higher. Heifers closed
mostly 50 cents higher, in
stances 75 cents higher.
Cows were steady and bulls
weak to 1.00 lower.
Four day receipts 13,000 as
compared 14,600 previous
week and 12,900 a year ago.
For the second successive
week, fed cattle prices ad
vanced on moderate supplies
with the midweek upturn
supported by higher carcass
prices at the wholeslae level.
Cattle marketing was often
given priority as ideal fall
weather permitted harvest
operations and field work to
move ahead at full speed,
and there was generally no
particular seller pressure to
move the available supply of
market-ready cattle: much
of the steer and heifer supply
was of good to average
choice grade and well
finished steers over 1200 lbs.
were relatively scarce.
Slaughter Steers made up
approximately 34 pet and
heifers 32 pet. Cows com
