to address Grange
HARRISBURG - Penn
sylvania’s three top officials
in agriculture will address
sessions of the 105th annual
convention of the Penn
sylvania State Grange at
Danville, Montour County,
October 24-27.
State Agriculture
Secretary Kent D.
Shelhamer will address the
Grangers at 11:20 a.m. on
October 25.
State Senator Patrick J.
Stapleton, chairman of the
Senate Agriculture Com
mittee, will address Grange
delegates at the opening
session Monday afternoon,

Stems can be bent by
gently working the hands up
and down the dired stem,
coaxing the stem into the
right curve. If the stems are
excessively dry and brittle,
soak them for an hour in
warm water, then carefully
bend. After the curve is set,
dry on paper towels.
Small flowers can
sometimes be handled better
if grouped into bunches. Cut
the stems to the desired
lengths. Cut a three inch
length of floral tape, then
stretch it about another half
inch. (This prevents the tape
from loosening later.) After

at about the middle of the
stems and working down to
within a half inch of the ends.
Sometimes it is necessary
to add length and strength to
dried materials with a floral
pick. Overlap the end of the
stem and the pick for about
one and one half inches.
Wrap the wire at the top o of
the pick around the stem,
and cover with floral tape. If
even more length is needed,
instead use a piece of heavy
wire cut to the needed
length, overlap with the
stem, and wrap with floral
tape.
