—Lancaster Farming, Saturday, October 1,1977 24 in regional FFA SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - In the 15-state North Atlantic Regional FFA judging contest held at the Eastern States Exposition in West Springfield, Mass., recently, Pennsylvania placed higher, consistently, than any other state participating. All told, the Pennsylvania FFA’ers racked up two first placings - in dairy cattle judging and safe tractor operating. Yoders sweep Shorthorn show HARRISBURG - For the second stradbvear, Nedra Yoder, sville, graajd and honors in Shorthorn judging at iff-22nd Penn sylvania Junior Dairy Show with Melody, a 6- year-old. The winning entry was sired by Pmesedge Appollo. Nedra, showing as a 4-H member, is the daughter of Mr and Mrs, Samuel Yoder. Pa. ranks high Commonwealth in milk quality and dairy foods judging; agricultural mechanics, small gas engines; and livestock judging. The top ranking dairy cattle judging team was comprised of Steve Ritchey, Loysburg; David Pittman, Loysburg; and Herb Clapper, New Enterprise Rl. The team’s strong area was in Ayrshire judging in which Frederick Yoder, 17, of Shoemakersville, brother of Nedra, showed the reserve grand ✓and?jjeserve senior champronS?» 3-year-old, Pinesedge Flora Cheri 15th. The animal’s sire is Tab bagong Flora’s Prince. Frederick, a 4-H member for 10 years, showed the senior champion Milking Shorthorn at the 1975 Junior Dairy Show. The young man also showed the junior champion, Pinesedge Davy Cherry 18th, a senior yearling. The judging they were named the high team of the contest. Individually, Steve Rit chey was the first place judge over all members mvolved in the contest, winning his highest recognition in judging Brown Swiss. David Pittman was rated seventh, individually, over all dairy cattle judges. Tun Casner, Newport, Pa., was named the first place Pinesedge Dawey. Frederick showed as a 4-H member. Wendy Yoder,. 15; sister of - Nedra - and showed the reserve junior champion, C.H. Gay Irma, a senior calf. The reserve junior champion was sired by Lilydale Lucy’s Promise 10th. Wendy has been a 4-H member for six years. Although the Yoders completely dominated the Milking Shorthorn show, they did not have the ex- Tim Casner individual in the safe tractor operating contest. In milk quality and dairy foods judging, the second place Pennsylvania team was Comprised of twin sisters Maxine and Eileen Messner, New Holland, Pa. Dan Hershberger, Quarryville, completed the team effort. These three team mem bers placed sixth, seventh, and eighth, in the individual placings. The second placed small gas engines team was comprised of David Ren ninger and Jerry Wagner, both of Beaver Springs. 'Dennis Householder, Holbrook Rl; Chris Klinedinst, Wrightsville Rl; and Jody Trautuetter, Darlington Rl, comprised the second ranking livestock judging team. Individually, Jody Trautuetter placed sixth in the contest, Chris Klinedinst placed ninth, and Dennis Householder placed 10th. In ornatmental hor ticulture judging, Penn sylvania dropped two not ches to take fourth place with Felicia Gordner, Brownstown, named 10th place individual. Fifth place honors went to the Commonwealth’s FFA members in the FFA elec trical contest for agricultural mechanics. Daniel Witwer, New Holland, and Dallas Smith, Dover, both placed in dividually with Witwer ranking fourth and Smith taking ninth place honors. In poultry judging, Penn sylvania placed sixth. Clifford Day, vocational agriculture teacher from Garden Spot High School, served as chaperone.
