Although he hasn’t par ticipated widely in national contests or traveled on national trips, he did earn the opportunity to attend the National Junior Horticulture Association’s convention in 1974 and 1976. In 1974 it was held in Washington D.C. and two years later in King of Prussia, Pa. Although Ken does say that 4-H didn’t influence his choice of careers - he would like to go into city or in dustrial planning - he says it did develop his gardening and horticulture hobbies. New officers will be in stalled at the next meeting October 10. 4-H offers And, this year, his hobby turned into a full fledged business when he and his family grew three acres of strawberries which they marketed by “pick-your own.” “It was more like a money-making venture than a project,” Ken says The three acres , • e planted on land belou oi to the city of Lebanon and located only about a mile or so from the heart of town. “It was a pretty good year,” Ken says. “We’ve found there’s always a market for strawberries,” And what are Ken’s plans now that his tune is up in 4- H? “I may become a leader,” he says, although his plans aren’t finalized.
