Last year he also won a trip to the Kansas City con vention and livestock show through the salesmanship competition during the FFA’s Summer convention at State College. As a ninth grader in his first year of FFA work in 1975, Mummert earned the Star Greenhand award m the Dover chapter. The following year he was chosen the Star Chapter farmer and was the recipient of the Dekalb agriculture award. A variety of commodities are represented in Mum mert’s FFA projects. He owns three registered Holstein senior yearling heifers and has raised 100 capons annually for the past three years. His crop projects include field and sweet com and cantaloupes raised in conjunction with his family on the 102 acre farm. In addition to project work, Mummert par ticipates in numerous other county FFA activities, in cluding land judging, dairy judging, parliamentary procedure, interviewing and salesmanship. He was a delegate to the state con vention, representing York County. Richard Coons is his advisor in the Dover FFA chapter. Mummers is an Honor Society student in high school and is currently working in an innovative college-level study program. As a part-time provisional student, he is carrying several credits at the York Campus of Penn State University, and must maintain a “C” grade level there to remain in the program. Fair “I’m enjoying college much more than high school,” Mummert admits. “It’s a lot more of a challenge.” His beginning courses are English and the Arts and Humanities. Mummert has his sights set on a career as an agriculture engineer, specifically in the area of designing farm equipment and housing facilities. An active athlete, he has been a member of the Dover High School soccer and volleyball teams and has hiked over most of the Ap palachian trail. Sunday mornings find him teaching a class of third and fourth graders at Calvary Lutheran Sunday School in Dover. He has belonged for several years to the Davidsburg Community 4-H duo.
