All-American Dairy Show

HARRISBURG - For
years, Pennsylvanians have
considered the Pennsylvania
All-American Dairy Show to
be one of the finest in the
country. Any doubt of that
should be dispelled by a visit
to this year’s 14th annual
edition of the event, Sep
tember 26-30 at the Farm
Show Complex in
Harrisburg.
The All-American has
taken on a distinctly in
ternational flavor this year,
right down to an in
ternational visitors recep
tion on Thursday evening.
Tours will be offered to
foreign visitors throughout
the week and visits from
officials and dairymen from
around the world have been
encouraged.
The All-American is proud
to be host this Fall for the
Eastern National Ayrshire
Show. This is the first time
the Ayrshire Breeders
Association has approved
the PAA for its Eastern
National Show.
The addition of the
Eastern National Ayrshire
Show brings the total of

American to three, joining
the Eastern National Brown
Swiss Show and the Eastern
National Holstein Show.
As always, the Penn
sylvania All-American opens
first thing Monday morning
with a special emphasis on
youth. The Pennsylvania
Junior Dairy Slow includes
competition in ail six breeds
with 4-H and FFA entries in
judging events. Ap
proximately 650 entries are
expected for the show, with
the top three winners in each
class eligible for entry in the
breed competition later in
the week.
Monday also brings the
Invitational Youth Dairy
Cattle Judging Contest with
state champion 4-H and FFA
teams as well as in
tercollegiate teams meeting
to compete for cash
premium and trophies.
The six All-American
breed shows begin Tuesday
morning with the Eastern
National Brown Swiss Show
and the All-American
Milking Shorthorn Show. A
new feature for Tuesday’s

Show, intended as a state
final in the series of Holstein
district and regional shows
in the Commonwealth.
Wednesday brings com
petition in the Eastern
National Ayrshire Show and
the All-American Guernsey
Show. The All-American
Jersey Show opens Thursday
morning, sharing the
spotlight with the first day of
competition in the Eastern
National Holstein Show.
'Die All-American wraps
up on Friday with milking
and group classes in the
Holstein Show. Over 2,400
entries are expected in all
breeds at the show. Last
year, more than 2,300 entries
from 22 states and two
Canadian provinces were
represented in the six breed
shows.
Another top spectator
event is always an in
vitational breed sale, and
this year, the Pennsylvania
All-American features two:
The Invitational Brown
Swiss Sale, Monday evening
at 7 pjn. and the Invitational
.Holstein Sale, beginning at 5
p.m. Thursday.
On top of a lot of good
dairy cattle, the All-
American Week will put the
spotlight on the 21st annual
Pennsylvania Dairy Prin
cess Coronation at the Dairy
Show Recognition Banquet
at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
Reigning Princess Peggy
Staub of Newville, Cum
berland County will be on
hand to crown her successor.
