Margaret earned the reserve
champion trophy for the pen
of three wethers. In the
senior showmanship and
fitting contest, Christian, a
six-year-showman, took
both honors.
According to Barbara,
who shows Suffolks, the
family members trade off
breeds from year to year. As
a whole, she says she prefers
Dorsets for breeding sheep
' and Suffolks for market
animals. The Herrs raise
approximately 50 Dorset
breeding ewes and each
child has one or two of his
own animals in this breed.
Barbara’s champion
market lamb at Ephrata was
also the grand champion
wether at the York Fair.
Along with York, Barbara
has also shown at the
Solanco Fair, where, with
her sister, the Herr’s won all
the classes in the Dorset
breed.
