He calls his harvest very good, with healthy vines, and having enough rain over the summer months to get by. He noted that his pumpkins are a medium size with a good orange color to them. When talking about the growing season. Funk noted that this year he sprayed his fields with more fungicide, but he felt there were no real problems in his fields. He mentioned that in the past, some of the creations were very unusual and outstanding. A newcomer to the pumpkin growing, John Shenk, Lititz R 6, spoke to Lancaster Fanning about his first year of pumpkin growing. He grew one acre of pumpkins this year, using a special variety, that is supposed to be good for pies, use as jack-o lantems, and the roasting of the seeds. Shenk thought he had a successful year in the pumpkin growing, and added that in his opinion, the past season was a good year for growing the crop.
