Mervin Horst and Clarence Mase own the top butterfat
and milk producing cows, respectively, for 305-day lac
tations completed in July. Horst’s cow compiled a record
of 21,231 pounds of milk with-a 4.4 per cent test and 937
pounds of butterfat to catch the butterfat crown. Mase’s
cow got the milk production honor with her tally of 23,559
pounds of milk, a 3.2 per cent test and 746 pounds of but
terfat.
Following is a list of the cows in Lebanon County’s
DHIA program which completed records exceeding 600
pounds of butterfat.
The Lebanon County Herd Improvement Association
records of tests on county cows with over 600 pounds of fat
in July are as follows

New hatchery
to be built
NEW HOLLAND -
Longenecker’s Hatchery,
Inc., Elizabethtown, Pa. and
Victor F. Weaver, Inc., New
Holland, Pa. have jointly
announced their intentions to
construct and operate a new
34,000 square foot hatchery
to be located on a portion of
the John Garber Farm in
Mount Joy Township.
Construction will begin
immediately.
Longenecker’s Hatchery,
Inc. will be leasing the new
facility from Weaver and
undertake management of
the modem hatchery fully
equipped to handle 500,000
chicks per week. The ad
dition of the new hatchery
will almost double the
current capacities of
Longenecker’s Hatchery,
Inc. Approximately 80 per
cent of die chicks from the
new facility will be con
tracted to Victor F. Weaver,
Inc.
Construction of the $1.5
million facility is scheduled
to be completed by January,
1978.
