WRIGHTSVILLE - The
rhianina breed of beef cattle
is making its mark in
America, according to in
formation released at the
Northeast Region Chianina
Association Field Day held
near here at Lauxmont
Farms last Saturday.
Although the Association has
only 81 members, 39 of whom
are in Pennsylvania, a
record 750 or more people
turned out for the day-long
activities south of this York
County town.
It was noted that Chianina
blood was represented in
more than 34 grand or
reserve grand champions at
national or state shows
Chiania Breeding, for
example, was present in all
weight champions at the
Pennsylvania Farm Show
last January. In addition,
Chianinas have won 12
major carcass shows across
the nation.
It’s this kind of per
formance which is kindling
enthusiasm among those
cattlemen who are already
on the Chianina bandwagon
while generating interest in
others who are watching at
the sidelines. Hundreds of
them gathered at Lauxmont
Farms last Saturday to see
what Chianinas are all
about. Among the nearly 800
visitors and guests were 4-
H’ers and FFA members,
and many of the activities
taking place last Saturday
were directed towards their
interests. The schedule for
the day included several
hours of showing and
judging, with prizes at stake
that were valued up to $2OO
