I Notebook
For the past three weeks, I
have been picking sweet
corn. As this entails getting
out in the patch early in the
morning to have the 20 or 30
dozen ready for customers, I
often come back to the house
looking as though I had taken
a shower will all my clothes
on.
i The other morning was
especially unpleasant as I
was hurrying to go to a 4-H
Mothers’ Tea and planned to
take a neighbor along. And
this particular day, I had
extra work as both our
children went to State Days
at State College for three
days. One of them gave a

was on the horticulture
judging team. This meant
that I not only tened the
three dogs, several cats and
rabbits but their pigs. Most
of the time I’m delighted that
their pen is halfway down
through a field. (They used
to be near the back yard and
the smell really bothered
me). But now I discovered
the long walk with those
buckets and buckets of water
wasn’t any fun. Especially,
when they shook themselves
and spattered me with mud.
So, I was late as usual for the
meeting.
However, my vexations

The Berks County Society
of Farm Women Group 3
held a family picnic recently
at the Boyerstown Com
munity Park, with ap
proximately 30 persons in
attendance. After supper
games were played in
cluding a bingo party and a
peanut scramble.
Mrs. Ernest Hartline,
president reported that the
county convention, Oct. 1,
1977, will be at the Berks
County Agricultural Center.
The next meeting will be
Aug. 23, 7:30 p.m. at the
home of Mrs. Wilbur
Richards, Boyertown. Mr.
are as nothing compared to
our daughter’s problems in
moving to the West Coast.
When she told me she bad to
give away everything that
she had frozen from her
garden and empty her
freezer, it hit a sympathetic
note in my mind * how dif
ficult that would be.
They now have a new
house and over an acre of
land but no furniture as the
movers are one week late in
delivering it. Her car
arrived, even though it
started its trip from Indiana
one week biter than the
furniture. So she’s been
polishing floors, washing
windows and cleaning the 100
gallon aquarium tbat came
with the house, and waiting,
waiting, waiting.

The July meeting of Berks
County Farm Women Group
7 was held at the home of
Mrs. Richard Grajewski,
Wemersville, Rl, Pa. There
were 14 members present
and a new member was
inducted. The speaker for
the evening was Sam
Perrotto, Chief of Police for
Heidleberg and Robesonia.
The next meeting will be
held at the Berks County
Agricultural Center at 7:30
p.m. on August 31. The
meeting will pertain to the 4-
H program.

Women Society 1 met at the
home of Mrs. Noah Kreider,
Manheim, with Mrs.
Raymond Newcomer acting
as cohostess.
During this business
meeting, the society voted to
give $25 to the F. June Smith
Grange meets
VIRGINVILLE, Pa. - New
officers were elected at the
recent meeting of the
Lancaster Farming, Saturday, August 13,1977 —
The program was a talk on
the life history of M.S.
Hershey given by Eleanor
King.
The next meeting will be a
weekend retreat at Camp
Hebron September 9 to 11.

covered dish dinner.
A short business meeting
was held. A special offering!

Johnstown flood disaster
area.
The program for the
evening was slides based on
the theme “The Land of
Contrast” presented by Rev.
Kerby Bubble, Pastor of the
Paxton Church of the
Brethren.

Society 22 shared the bounty
of their gardens and the
talents from their kitchen at
an auction of goodies and
crafts held Tuesday evening
at the home of Mrs. Willis
Lefever, Strasburg Rl. Mrs.
ifacold Rudy, Jr., was co
hostess for the meeting.

beginning at noon. On
August 28 there Will be a
county youth picnic at
Virginville,
The next grange meeting
will be August 17. There will
be a doggie roast and ball
game before the meeting.
