A new 450 hp four-wheel
drive tractor - the Tiger ST
-450 -has been introduced by
Steiger Tractor, Inc., Fargo,
N.D. The units is the world’s
most powerful mass
produced farm tractor. It
can chisel plow 45 acres or
more per hour, according to
company engineers. The
Steiger Tiger ST-450 is
powered by a turbocharged
and aftercooled Cummins
1150 cubic inch engine, which
delivers 350 horse power to
the draw bar, according to
manufacturer’s estimate.
The six-speed manual
power-shift transmission can
produce an infinite range of
working ground speeds up to
15 miles per hour. A wide
range of convenience
features are standard,
including a CB radio, and
digital clock with lapsed
time meter.
The Steiger Tiger ST-450
offers innovative comfort
features as well. For
example, the new cab is a
roomy five feet wide. Also,
an AM-FM stereo radio,

Transmission and
hydraulic controls are
positioned to the operator’s
right in a console unit. It
swings up for easy entry and
exit.
The cab is rubber-mounted
for vibration free comfort,
and the cab glass is tinted to
reduce operator eye strain.
Cab instrumentation
includes a voltmeter,
hourmeter, tachometer,
speedometer, torque
converter light,
transmission filter light,
lube oil pressure, warning
light for the transmission,
and safety shutdown system
switches on engine oil
pressure and water
temperature.
Fourteen working lights -
eight front and six rear -
assure good round-the-clock
visibility. Four flashing
lights - two front and two
rear - for road operation are
included.
The Tiger ST-450 takes its
place at the top of Steiger’s
lineup of 13 four-wheel-drive
tractors, which range in
horsepower from the 210 hp
Steiger Wildcat in to the 450
