14 —Lancaster Farming, Saturday. May 7, 1977 livestock market May 5,1977 Weekly Cattle—Compared with the previous weeks close-through midweek, prices on slaughter steers were 50-75 cents lower, but closing trade firm on small supply; heifers were mostly 50 cents lower, instance 75 cents off at midweek. Cows were firm to 50 cents higher and bulls firm. Four day reciepts 20,900 as compared 19,400 previous week and 15,300 a year ago. For the first time in some eight weeks, prices on slaughter steer and heifers were measurable lower than at the end of the previous trading period. The down turn was enforced on a liberal midweek run in reflection of increased slaughter and downward pressure on carcass beef at the wholesale level. However, demand was generally good throughout the period. Most interests came into the week in need of cattle and were quite aggressive for numbers on Monday and Tuesday.
