MANHEIM, Pa. - Mr. and
Mrs. Eugene 8011, Manheim
R 2, have the kind of kitchen
in their home that
housewives and teenage
cooks covet.
“The kitchen is my
favorite room in the house,”
smiles the quietly amiable
Mrs. 8011.
The work area of the
combination kitchen and
family room is done in
elegant shades of burnt
orange and brown, accented
by brick. The two most
outstanding characteristics
of this visually soothing,
spacious area are the pole
lamp connected to a cen
trally located work counter,
and the wooden shingles
which cover the range hood
and pantry roof.
“I got the idea for the pole
lamp from a brochure,”
Mrs. 801 l explains, “ and I
decided that I would like to
have it in my kitchen.”
She also decided, without
the aid of a brochure, that
she needed a centrally
located working area for
making pies, chopping
vegetables, and doing other
cooking preparations. So, the
builders planned for the
work area and situated it
across from the sink.
“I use this particular
counter more than I do the
other working space,” she
says with a smile. It features
a grill and a built-in cooling
surface.
The kitchen also features a
pantry, microwave oven,
range, and double oven.
To complete the rustic
effect she has created with
the shingled roof and lamp,
Mrs. 801 l chose to finish the
wall areas around the stove
and oven with brick. And, the
ceiling also features exposed
beams which match the
beaded inset doors on the
cupboards and pantry. These
cupboards are made of oak
