—Lancaster Fanning, Saturday. A| 110 American farmers check European trade potential BRUSSELS, Belgium - A delegation of 12 American farmers headed by American Farm Bureau president, Allan Grant, has just concluded visits with EC representatives on freer trade for agricultural commodities. Of major concern to both the EC and the United States are the General Agreement on Trade and Tariff (GATT) negotiations which are to resume this year in Geneva. “After a year of discussing procedures for the talks,” said Grant, “the EC is ready to discuss agriculture and ways and means to minimize trade barriers.” Some 90 nations are involved in the GATT talks, the goal of which is to promote freer exchange of goods and services in the world market by reducing tariff and nontariff barriers. The talks are important to American fanners because of more than $22 billion worth of farm products the United Staes exported in 1975, of which $l5 billion worth were confronted with some form of trade barriers or restrictions. “We have found that they are determined to get something moving in the GATT negotiations this FEATURING ... ★ Quicker cooling to lower temp. ★ Lower installation cost ★ More efficient cooling (suSfcSdeJ ★ Solid state controls v* ✓ ★ Lower service cost Come in. We’ve met with them and their philosophies are different from ours. They have a regulated economy with prices on commodities set at some fictitious level which has nothing to do with the market and we have to compete with those commodities if they are subsidized in their export from the European Community. “We’ve told them under no uncertain terms that we could compete with farmers anywhere in the world but not with subsidized products. They understand this and Robert Strauss, the U.S. Representative to the GATT talks, and the EC’s Olav Gundelach are determined to make some progress during 1977. I “Solving the problem isn’t going to be easy,” continued the AFBF president, “because many countries want a separate set of standards for agricultural goods, while the United States is bargaining for equal footing for both agriculture and industry. This is important to all Americans because the agricultural community provides more than $22 nil 2. 1977 billion worth of agricultural commodities for export and that helps pay for foreign oil.” The purpose of the-10-day series of conferences with' EC leaders is to pave the way toward mutually beneficial trade policies between the U.S. and the European Community.' The group hopes its meetings will lead to the reduction of trade restrictions and barriers, especially the variable unport levies now imposed by the EC which hamper the free flow of agricultural commodities exported by the United States. m m w gag ei m )f'i m h*oMk?Jsii C 0 Coupon good for tpO two (2) spools of cutting line (TY3094 or TY9313) with purchase of new John Deere Electric Weed Trimmer (TY2541) ToCustomei Pieasebeadvisedononowmgconddtons OHhecash vaiueot coupon is 1 20th of 1 cent ©p l ’ (2) coupon is void if use is prohibited or restricted by law (3) you will be required to pay any sales tax , applicable!© the transaction m which you use coupon —such tax may be payable on lull valued goods Vi and {A) you must fill in your name and address in places provided below This coupon ts being • distributed by a John Deere Dealer who owns his own store and sets his own retail prices Price o( g'J merchandise oflered on coupons subiect to change without notice Further dealers may not have merchandise against which this coupon may be applied in stock at the time you present coupon However merchandise will ordinarily be available and can be ordered from John Deere by participating dealer Other items may not be available at all d sales exceed anticipated demand or other circumstances occur beyond dealer s and John Deere s control Use of coupon subiect to availability of such merchan dise Limit one coupon per item Mr Dealer Youareauthonzedtoact asour agenttor redemption©! this coupon m accordance with the terms thereo* Dealer must fill in name and account number Presentation for redemption without such compliance constitutes fraud This coupon and all others you redeem for Sprmg J 977 Direct Mad Program are to be turned m to John Deere Territory Manager Offer expires May Mr Dealer yV Cuslomer Name (Please Prmi) \\Kms «»*a I Save $6 Coupon good for $6 off regular price of a deluxe 3-inch John Deere Cordless Shears (TY2365) •Si Customer Name (Please Pnnt» yj£ To*n State Zip ‘ 1 v^sssi s^^%ii2'¥ l s3 l V i'^v- Save $75 Coupon good for $75 off regular price of any new John Deere 66 or 68 Riding Mower ToCustomer Please be advised of following conditions (1J the cash value of coupon is 1 20th otl cent (2) coupon is void if use is prohibited or restricted by law (3) you will be required to pay any sales tax applicable to the transaction p iaa£ To Customer Please be advised of following conditions <1) the cash value of coupon is f 20th of 1 cent (2) coupon is void if use is prohibited or restricted by law (3) you will be required to pay any sales tax applicable to the transaction m which you use coupon- such tax may be payable on full valued goods and (4) you mu«t ltd m your name and address m places provided below This coupon is being distributed by a John Deere Dealer who owns his own store and sets his own retail prices Price of merchandise offered on coupons subject to change without notice Further dealers may not have merchandise against which this coupon may be applied m stock at the time you present coupon However merchandise will ordinarily be available and can be ordered from John Deere by participating dealer Other items may not beavai table at all it sales exceed anticipated demand or other circumstances occur beyond dealer s and John Deere s control Use of coupon subject to availability of such merchan dise Limit one coupon per item Mr Dealer You are authorized!" ict asour agentfor redemptionot this coupon in accordance with the terms thereof Dealer must (ill m nameand account number Presentation for redemption without Suer compliance constitutes fraud This coupon and all others you redeem for Spring 1977 Direct Mail Program are to be turned in to John Deere Territory Manager Offer expires May 31 1977 Address LANDIS 1305 MANHEIM PIKE AMMMMMMP »»»¥»* MMMMMMHMMMHH* Viewpoint's When angry, count ten before you speak, if very angry, count a hundred Thomas Jefferson ************. ************ asSSS a ms&e.
