Abandoned dairymen find market
YORK, Pa. - About 65
York and Adams County
dairymen who were issued
pick-up termination slips
early in March have signed
on as members of the
Maryland Cooperative Milk
Producers, Inc., Baltimore.
“This will not be throwing
any additional new milk on
the already adequate
supplies available in Order
4,” emphasized Walter
Engeman, head of Field
Service for MCMP. “The
milk was already there
before.” The production

to be handled through
Federal Order 2, where milk
loads have been handled in
the past by the New Holland
dairy which terminated the
shippers.
“The shippers needed a
market, and that’s what the
cooperative is all about. Part
of our Job is finding markets
for dairy fanners,” added
Engeman.
The Maryland cooperative
is looking toward the future
of supplies of milk, with
ground scheduled to be
broken this week for a milk
powder and butter

About 100 shippers in three
counties were affected by the
New Holland cutback. A few
will reportedly discontinue

Maryland marketing firm
have signed up with other
area dairies, assuring them
of a continued outlet.
Achievers recognized
by Dover FFA
DOVER, Pa. - Numerous
awards were presented at
the Dover Chapter FFA
parent member banquet held
at the Dover High School on
March 10. Nelson
Brenneman, a first year
member, was the star of the
evening, walking away with
awards for soil and water
management, dairy
farming, and crop
production. Brenneman was
also the high citrus fruit
salesman as well as the
highest seed salesman in the
chapter, and for all his
activities, won the Star
Chapter Greenhand award,
which is given to the
outstanding first year
member.
