‘Make mine milk 9
By JOHNF. BROCKMAN
_— Director of Communicaticras
United Dairy
Industry Association
ROSEMONT, m. - Two years ago, we launched a “Think
Milk, Drink Milk” campaign. It was directed toward dairy
industry people to urge them to be “milk ambassadors” by -
drinking milk publicly and enjoying those example-setting
glasses of milk.
We wrote articles and sold buttons and were pleased to note
that more milk was drunk at dairy meetings. As one dairy
leader asked, “How many coffee beans are grown in the
United States?”
From this corner, it seems that all of us should drink even
more milk today with the soaring price of coffee. That’s
jmpnrtant, too, because our per cajaita consumption of milk
isn’t keeping pace with our population growth, even though
this growth has slowed dramatically the past few years.
And we’re losing our young milk drinkers. This is alarming
because more than 51 per cent of all milk is consumed by
youngsters up to 17 years of age. But they’re drinking less
each year.
Could it be the adults are not setting a good enough
qrainpiit in public? Possibly we drink so much milk at home
that we don’t want to buy it outside?
If that’s the reason, it’s not a good one. From this comer,
we agree that we should drink milk at home. That’s to be
of dairy people. But we should also drink milk away
from home. Let’s put our mouth where our future is. Start
responding, “Make Mine Milk,’’ whenever you’re asked,
“What will you have to drink?”
“Make Mine Milk.”
Sort of trills on the tongue, doesn’t it? And it’s good for the
joul and stomach, too.
