—Lancaster Farming, Saturday, March 12, 1977 112 Little Dutchmen FFA banquet held By SALLY BAIR Feature Writer ANNVILLE, Pa. - The Little Dutchmen Chapter of the Future Fanners of America celebrated FFA week by holding their seventeenth annual Parent • Member banquet at Annville - Cleona High School. Nearly 240 persons at tended to help the 50- member chapter recognize their accomplisbements. Jay Bomgardner, Annville R 3, chapter president, was named Chapter Star Far mer. In making the presentation, FFA advisor. G. Lowell Morton recognized bis leadership ability and his willingness to help otherrs. and to work as needed to accomplish a project. Bomgardner also won the DeKalb Agricultural Award, the leadership award and the chapter tractor driving award - for the second year. He received a proficiency, award in swine production and got a blue ribbon and a state gold medal for his fanning enterprises project book. Bomgardner said, “I realize how good it has been. I wish I could start again in ninth grade and do it all again. Of all the awards I won I like the emblem of the rising sun the best. Being president will help me in all my life.” Each retiring officer received the emblem of his office as a gift from the chapter for the work he had accomplished. Sam Heagy is vice-president; Tom Landis, secretary and Jim Wampler, treasurer. Steve Wampler, Lebanon R 4, was named star agri businessman. He also received a proficiency award in agricultural production, and in the project book contest he received a blue and a gold medal in work experience. Star Greenahnd- was Robert Kreider, Annville Rl, who was also recognized as a winner of the creed contest, and the greenhand contest. Kreider received the scholarship award, and was a proficiency award winner in public speaking. Keystone Fanner awards went to Jay Bomgardner and Jim Wampler, Lebanon R 4. Harvey Smith, Area Consultant, presented the National Chapter Safety Award to Brian Burkholder who is chairman of the little Dutchmen Chapter safety committee. The chapter also teaches safe tractor driving and other instruction in safety techniques. Burkholder said the chapter will have a service project making available fire extinguishers and smoke detectors to the general public. Honorary degrees were given to Alice Heagy, a student who assisted with the FFA float and the banquet; Kenneth Paries, who helped organize a trap shoot at the Palmyra Sportsmen’s Clubl and Warren Wampler, father of one of the Keystone far mers. State FFA president Randall Ranck expressed appreciation to FFA for helping young people “gain the experience of sharing ideas and problems. The knowledge we gain allows us to have ambition and set goals. Some we reach readily and some we never reach. Through FFA we build the foundation to be useful, productive citizens.” “If we put to use the knowledge we gain we have an optomistic future.” James Campbell, Annville - Cleona High School, principal congratulated the ELECTRIC FFA award winners and members, and adddressing the parents, he said, “We appreciatethe crop of young men and women you send to school. Joe Peters was a state proficiency award winner for horses.
