—Lancaster Farming, Saturday, Jan. 29. 1977 86 Corn causes surprise WASHINGTON, D. C. - There was a surprise or two in the Crop Production, 1976 Annual Summary that the United States Department of Agriculture issued last week. It bumped com production up 2-Vz per cent, over-all feed grain production up three per cent from November projections, and cotton production up three per cent from projections made only a month ago. Thus, U.S. com for grain output is now seen at 6.216 billion (six billion, 216 million) bushels, up 153 million bushels from the November estimate, 351 million bushels above previous high output of 5.797 billion a year ago. Though sorghum for grain output was cut back one per cent to 723.7 million bushels from November, this decline was more than offset by increases m both oats and barley. As a result, feed grain out-put is now seen at 21204 million tons. That’s up three per cent from the November forecast, five and half per cent above the October estimate, and two per cent above the previous high of 207.7 million short tons set in 1971. Over-all crop production is seen just under the record 1975 total. -1 - SWOPE & BASHORE, FEBRUARY 1, 2 & 3 8 AM TO 5 IH REPRESENTATIVES WILL BE HERE TO PRESENT PLANTING IDEAS FOR 1977 David L.
