Sensenig GrH GrH CUSTOM MINERAL AND VITAMIN Feed testing to achieve proper balancing of livestock rations is essential to profitable milk and meat production. MINERALS AND VITAMINS MUST BE PRESENT IN ADEQUATE AMOUNTS AND IN PROPER BALANCE TO EFFICIENTLY UTILIZE THESE BALANCED RATIONS. Whenever a feeding ration is changed, a new and distinct formulation is needed to provide adequate mineral and vitamin nutrition. Many problems of animal production, breeding and health result from an imbalance of minerals and vitamins. Ration requirements vary for different kinds and sizes of livestock. Through a custom for mulation, based on the present ration and animal requirements, the proper level and balance of these essential nutrients can be achieved. NORMALLY, UNDERFEEDING OR OVER FEEDING OF MINERALS AND VITAMINS REDUCES THE EFFICIENT UTILIZATION OF THE RATION WHICH COSTS MORE MONEY THAN THE MINERALS AND VITAMINS NEEDED TO BALANCE THE RATION. A properly operating tank can preserve all of the good nutrition, flavor and quality that the cow puts in the milk. A malfunctioning tank can ruin the milk and cost you the dairymen a lot of money. Let’s face it, many farm bulk tanks were installed 10 or 20 years ago. The refrigeration system becomes less efficient as the years go by. Unfortunately they cease to operate properly long before they completely break down. Your milk may cool too slowly causing a high bac teria count. There is also the possibility that the milk can freeze or churn without your seeing it. Freezing or churning costs you money because of lower milkfat tests. Frequently tests may be .2 percent or lower because of the clumping of fat particles. 799 745 795 671 State offering firewood HARRISBURG - Secretary Maurice K. Goddard, Department of En vironmental Resources, has announced that firewood is available from State Forest lands. However, said Secretary Goddard, there is a charge which varies, perhaps by $1 or $2 a cord, from one Forest District to another depen ding on several factors in cluding availability and accessibility. The average price is $1.50 per cord. Persons desiring firewood must obtain a permit from the Forest District Office. The permit is good for 60 days so the entire supply does not have to be gathered, or cut, in a single day. When the permit is issued, the applicant will also be informed where the firewood Piggies put $ in promotion bank ANNAPOLIS, Md. - Preliminary.figures for the first year of Maryland Pork Producers Association participation in “Nickels For Profit” checkoff program show that approximately 108,000 hogs produced and slaughtered in the state were covered. Thus, MPPA expects the voluntary, producer-tax program will generate $5400 in funds to be used to promote pork products on the national and state level. The money, five-cents for each hog sold for slaughter, is collected by livestock dealers, auction markets, and slaughter houses. Since the program is on a volun tary basis, those who do not wish to participate may ask in writing for the return of .Jan. 29.1977—33 Facts for dairymen By Alan Bair Assoc. County Agent Lancaster, Pa. These clumps do not usually get into the one-ounce sample during collection. The average farm would lose $2 to $3 per day if milk fat test is .2 per cent low. The fat cannot be recovered when tested at the processor or retailer level. You need to check your bulk tanks to be sure they cool to 40 degrees F. or below within one hour of milking. Combined temperatures of two milkings should not exceed 45 degrees F. Be sure the fins of the compressor condenser are clean. Allow adequate air circulation around the compressor. Even during this cold weather you can experience bulk tank problems. Hard starting compressors can cause motors to burn out. Also, under severe con ditions, the migration of liquid freon can cause valve and-or bearing problems. Compressors should have cold weather protection. Make sure that your bulk tank operates properly at all times of the year. A service call may return you big dividends. can be found and what trees, if any, may be cut. Those that may be cut are dead trees marked for that pur pose. Live trees may not be cut and anyone found violating this regulation will be prosecuted. In recent weeks the Department’s Division of State Forest Management has been receiving numerous calls from persons seeking firewood and often they confuse State Forest lands with State Game lands. Some also think the firewood is free for the asking. The Department handles only requests for firewood from State Forest lands and then only through the Forest District Office, not the Central Office, in Harrisburg. Not covered in the Maryland checkoff are hogs slaughtered for personal use and hogs that are shipped out of state for slaughter. Eighty-three per cent of the Maryland checkoff fund will be used by MPPA for advertising, pork cookbooks, the “Maryland Porkecue Cook-Off” held at Timonium each year, and other programs designed for in state pork promotion.
