Jan. 29,1977—39 The Pennsylvania State Grange, at its annual meeting last October, adopted a resolution calling on the state Agriculture Department to declare Johnsongrass a noxious weed, and requesting the State Legislature to “pass laws making it mandatory to control noxious weeds.” Snyder explained that Johnsongrass has become a serious problem on farms in some sections of the state. It develops dense root systems that spread rapidly and choke out desirable plants. The problem was discussed with State Form .Equipment Agriculture Department officials, Snyder said, and proposed legislation has been drafted for introduction in the General Assembly. “We are pleased with the quick response of the Agriculture Department to this problem, and the steps that are being taken to combat this weed,” Snyder added. Eastern {Continued from Page 1] non-storable commodity, could be disastrous for all concerned. Through the office of New York Congressman James Hanley, York was to petition for a hearing, on behalf of Eastern Milk Producers, in an effort to remedy what was fast becoming a critical situation. In an unrelated development to the in dustry’s energy problems, Eastern called for an emergency hearing, requesting advance payment for dairy farmers in the New York-New Jersey Federal Milk Marketing Order. York said this action was necessary to maintain a uniform, on time, partial payment schedule for milk produced by these dairymen. A committee, formed to travel to our nation’s capitol and formally ask for the above hearing, included the following directors of Eastern Milk Producers: President Arden Tewksbury, Meshoppen, Pa.; Max Lonstein, South New Berlin, N.Y. and Stanley Korona, Amsterdam, N.Y.
