—Lancaster Farming, Saturday, Jan. 29, 1977 38 What's new ‘TOP TAG’ DALLAS, Texas, - High visability and simplicity of application are the “ear marks” 6f a new cattle identification system in troduced by the Starbar Division of Zoecon In dustries, Inc. (formerly Thuron Industries, Inc.). “The new product, called ‘Top Tags’, ” is designed to be mounted on the ‘crown,’ or top part of the animal’s ear, near the head. The tag is identifiable even when the animal flicks its ear, and the tag and num bers can be easily seen by a man on horseback, or a dairyman looking up from a milking position. Winter hair growth will not obscure Top Tags, as is the case with some brands that hang in side the ear, because of its position on top. The application of Top Tags is also a major ad vancement over the old knife blade method. The tags are applied with a special ap plicator, which makes a small round opening that draws no blood and causes no tissue damage. The ap plicator pierces the hard “crown,” and mounts the Top Tag in one quick motion. Application of the tag causes no apparent distress for the animal, and there are fewer problems with infections. The positioning of Top Tags also protects from exposure to underbrush and fences, and allows much less pendulum action from the animal swinging and flap ping its ear. The plastic tags stay tough in extremes of weather, resulting in superior retention of the tag. GENERATORS Wuico has developed a series of new brushless generators especially for use with center pivot irrigation equipment. Sized to match today’s " most popular systems, the belt-driven, self-regulating generators offer 10,12.5 or 20-kw output. At 1800 rpm, the output is 480-volts; 3-phase, 80 hz. An exclusive maxiwatt circuit design (Pat. Pen ding) gives the new Winco generators the capacity to start one bp per kw under heavy load. Other features of the new generators - the PS4G Series - include oversized double sealed bearings, and heavy duty insulation to withstand severe electrical, thermal and environmental stress. A large, clearly marked terminal block inside a spacious control box sim plified hook-up. To permit easy compensation for line drop in instances where the generator is remote from the pivot, the control box also contains a voltage adjusting rheostat.
