Chester County. This is a
first for the Coffey’s, who
broke the domination of the
junior steer sale of Robert
Myers. Myers had bought
the grand champion steer for
the past four years in a row.

stalled at $2 50 a pound, well
below the final price.
Agriculture Secretary
designate Kent D.
Shelhamer then stepped into
the ring to lead the steer to
its final price.
At $6.05 a pound, the steer
sold for under the record
price of $6.40, set at last
year’s Farm Show. Miss
Kaylor, a sophmore at
Elizabethtown Area High
School and president of the
Lower Dauphin County 4-H
Baby Beef Club, said she will
save the money.
The reserve grand
champion junior steer,
shown by John Holloway of
West Chester, Chester
County, was sold to Danny
George of George’s
Foodliner Market in
Bethlehem for $l.BO a pound,
or a total of $2,448.

HARRISBURG - Two
records were established m
the Junior Market Swine
Sale at the 61st annual
Pennsylvania Farm Show,
as the grand champion, a
231-pound barrow owned by
Seth Gruber of New Tripoli,
Lehigh County, brought $l5
per pound. The price broke
the old record of $lO per
pound set at last year’s
Farm Show.
Bidding became sluggish
at about $8 per pound, and
Pennsylvania Agriculture
Secretary Raymond J.
Kerstetter stepped up to the
microphone to exhort the
prospective buyers. Soon
prices were spiraling up-

Glenn Growl, Airville R 2, placed fourth in the 4-H
tractor driving contest at the Farm Show last week.
The competition is on the knowledge of the tractor,
trouble shooting diagnosis and safe driving skills.
B. Herr wins showmanship
HARRISBURG - Barbara
Herr, of Narvon, won the 4-H
Lamb Showmanship Contest
at the 61st Farm Show. She is
a member of the Red Rose 4-
H Baby Beef and Lamb Club.
Barbara also was declared
champion in the division for
12 to 14-year-olds.
Winner in the 11-year-old
and under category was
Nancy MacCauley, of RD 1,
Lancaster Farming, Saturday, Jan. 22,1977
ward, until the hog was sold
to George’s Foodliner
Market in Bethlehem at a
total price of $3,465.
The $4 per pound received
for the reserve grand
champion market swine set
another record, surpassing
the 2.70 per pound price of
last year’s Farm Show. The
reserve grand champion, a
214-pounder, exhibited by
Nedra J. Yoder of
Shoemakersville, Berks
Coimty was sold to the
Hatfield Packing Co., of
Hatfield, Montgomery
County.
A total of 100 market swine
were sold in today’s auction.
Atlgen, Chester County. She
is a member of the Golden
Fleece 4-H Club of Chester
County.
In the 15-year-old and
older division, David Lytle of
New London, Chester
County, won the cham
pionship. He also is a
member of the Golden
Fleece 4-H Club of Chester
County.
