Ag policy

major areas of national
concern for 1977;
1. The monopoly power of
organized labor to override
public interest by imposing a
“featherbedded” economy
on the nation.
2. The overregulation of
our economy by federal and
state agencies that is
choking out its vital func
tions. Among other groups,
farmers, he charged,
“Have had it” with a
multiplicity of senseless
forms and regulations by
EPA and OSHA.
3. The misrepresentation
of many national “con
sumerist” organizations as
actual spokesmen for con
sumers, when in fact they
are little more than “front
groups” for organized labor.
As a supplement to labor
interests, Grant charged,
these organizations actually
serve to raise prices to
consumers in the market.
He said Farm Bureau had

a role in working hard to
explain these issues to the
American People in 1977.
Grant predicted no easy
road for attempts by
organized labor to repeal the
Right-To-Work section (14B)
of National Labor Relations
Legislation. Although
President-Elect Carter has
agreed to sign such
legislation, Grant said it
might never reach his desk.
He said he thought a
coalition of southern and
western states - all with
Right-To-Work laws - might
provide the power balance to
stop labor’s campaign for
repeal.
Grant said that Farm
Bureau, at present 2,600,000
member families, is
“definitely headed towards
3,000,000,” that Farm
Bureau is “without question
the voice of American
agriculture” and has an
increasing responsibility to
use it to speak out strongly
on national issues.
