the other members of her
chapter to let her present
Hamburg in the cattle
judging competition - an
event she says she “loves” -
at Penn State FFA activities
week. Nedra rewarded their
confidence m her by taking
Bth place among 222 com
petitors and winning a gold
medal.
Barnhart, Nedra
remembers, “was beside
himself” because it was the
first time anyone from the
Hamburg chapter had made
such a showing.
Through her 4-H and FFA
activities, Nedra also got to
study the cooperative
system at Shippensburg
State College as a first year
scholar with the Pa.
Association of Farmers’
Cooperatives this year. She
also won a trip to the
American Institute in
Cooperatives at the Polytech
Institute located in
Blacksburg, Va.
Besides her 4-H and FFA
activities and the
promotional duties con
nected with her Dairy
Princess title, Nedra
manages to keep pace with
an awesome number of
school related activities. An
avid sportswoman, she
participates in girls field

track. A member of the
national honor society, she
serves on her school’s
student council, belongs to
the Future Nurses and
Library clubs, and per
formed in the class play both
her junior and senior years.
To add to what has obviously
been a banner year for this
energetic coed, this summer
Nedra was featured among
the top four per cent of
outstanding high school
students in the latest volume
of Who’s Who Among
American High School
Students.
Although Nedra does find
some time for dating in her
busy schedule, she does not
consider boys to be a
primary interest in her life
right now, an attitude she
feels came about after a
memorable trip to Europe
three years ago. Having
saved the money herself for
the airfare, Nedra flew to
Germany where she spent
four months living with
friends of her family and
attending school. Before
returning home, she
managed to visit nine
countries. That trip, she says
now, was the “tum-around
point” in her life, when she
discovered there is a whole
big world outside of
Shoemakersville, Pa.
