Chief inspector named WASHINGTON, D.C. - The U.S. Department of Agriculture announced that Donald E. Wilkinson, ad ministrator of USDA’s Agricultural Marketing Service (AMS), will tem porarily head the Federal Grain Inspection Service that was established Nov. 20, when a grain inspection law enacted last month went into effect. Wilkinson said he planned to take a “very active role” in overseeing day-to-day activities of the Inspection Service until a permanent administrator can be nominated by the President and confirmed by the Senate. At the same time, Wilkinson will continue his duties as AMS administrator. About 780 AMS gr.ain division employees involved in inspection and stan dardization have been transferred to the Federal Grain Inspection Service. Most were stationed in the division’s 33 field offices, which have all been taken into the new agency. Plans are underway to recruit additional employees, eventually bringing the total to over 2600.
