Compared with previous
weeks close
Closing prices on
Slaughter Steers were 50-1.00
higher, the most advance on
Choice. Heifers were 50-75
cents higher, instances 1.00

higher and Bulls firm to 1.00
higher.
Four day receipts 15,200
compared 14,200 previous
week and 18,900 a year ago.
Demand was generally good
for Slaughter Cattle
following the holiday period,
and the upturn in live prices
was supported by sharply
higher carcass prices
through midweek which
served to improve the ratio
between live prices and
carcass realizations. Most
interests came into the week
with only live
inventories bn hand and the
daily rate of slaughter was
reduced somewhat. An
additional favorable factor
was good day-to-day
distribution of supplies. On
rounds, two local
packers were out of the
market with no announced
time for returning to
operation. The overall finish
of the Steer and Heifer
supply was attractive with a
liberal percentage Choice
and a moderate volume
Choice and Prime and 1250-
1400 lb., 4-5 Steers were
relatively scarce. Steer
made up approximately 29
per cent of the weeks run,
Heifers 27 per cent, Cows 12
per cent, Feeders 30 per
cent.
