Farm Women Societies
Lancaster Co,
Society 11
Lancaster County Farm
Women Society 11 met on
November 18 at 1:30 p.m. at
the home of Mrs. Betty
Burkins.
Roll call was answered by
16 members and one guest.
In the business session, the
Secretary and treasurer
reports were read and ap
proved. The Sunshine
Committee report was given
and the Book Committee for
1977 reported the book ready
for printing. Plans were
made to sew a quilt designed
with an appropriate farm
scene. The group donated $lO
to Lancaster County Mental
Health Society and $lO to the
Cancer Society.
Mrs. Freeda Huber and
Mrs. Ressel gave reports of
the county convention. The
announcement was made
that donations of cookies for
the Veterans’ hospitals may
be delivered to the Cla-Mart
Store in Quarryville by
December 18, and an in
vitation was extended for
helping at the American
Legion kitchen when cookies
are made for the Veterans
Hospitals on November 30,
December 1 and 2.

Five members expressed
desire to go to "the state
convention.
The business meeting
adjourned and for the
program, Esther Wood
conducted a quiz on
historical facts, and a small
auction was held.
The December meeting
will be at the Robert Fulton
Inn. A $1 gift exchange and
Christmas carol singing will
be featured on the program.

Society 12
Members of Lancaster
County Farm Women
Society 12 celebrated their
50th anniversary at a dinner
on November 20th at the
Harvest Drive restaurant.
Mrs. Robert Hacking gave
highlights of the group’s 50th
year. The group has three
charter members - Mrs.
Lester Sigman, Mrs. Wesley
Benedict, and Mrs. Bertha
Herr.
The Society originated in
November 1926 with 13
members. At present, the
group has grown to 30.
The program for the 50th
anniversary meeting was
Mrs. Eileen Landis from the
Youth Center in Millersville.
The Society Christmas
party will be held at Shady
Maple, Willow Street on
December 4 at 6 p.m.

The November meeting
Lancaster County of Farm
Women Society 15 was held
on Thursday, November 18
at 1 p.m. at the Union
Presbyterian Church near
Kirkwood. Hostesses were
Colleen Shoemaker, Ger
trude Weicksel, Evelyn
Myer, Bertha Ferguson,
Sandra Rinehart, and Jessie
Trimble.

The meeting was con
ducted by the president
Kathryn Horner.
Society 15 were sponsors of
Cindy Esh in the Miss
Solanco contest.
The trip committee
chairman, Kathryn Wagner,
reported plans for a night out
at the Three Little Bakers
Theatre in the Spring. Nine
volunteers from Society 15
went to the Family Health
Day at the Greek Churchy in
Lancaster to attend the
Cancer Society information
booth.
It was voted at the meeting
to give $lOO to the-Solanco
Fair toward finishing of the
building. Two members
wrote essays in response to
the state contest on “How a
Farm Woman Ticks in ’76.”
The women were Dorothy
Johnson and Evelyn Myer.
Both essays were read to the
group.
A silent auction of foods
and crafts was also held.
The annual Christmas
party banquet will be held on
December 9 at 6:30 p.m. at
Rhoads restaurant m
Quarryville. The Hershey
boys choir will be the
featured entertainment.

The monthly meeting of
Lancaster County Farm
Women Society 18-was held
at the home of Mrs. Hershey
East Petersburg.
Donations voted for were
Cancer Fund - $lO.OO, and
Complete grain storage, drying and handling systems.

L.A.R.C. - $35.00. The money
given to L.A.R.C. was for the
purchase of articles for the
Christmas project.
It was reported that
Lancaster County has sent a
check for $2,120 to the St.
Joseph Hospital Mobile Unit.
Delegates to the con
vention at Harrisburg
January 10 - 11 are Mary
Jane Duke and Ruth Rohrer.
Mrs. Betty Farrar spoke
on “The Socially Malad
justed Youth in Lancaster,
School System.” She related
her experiences in reaching
the less lovable, insecure,
searching youth of today.
She is a very special kind of
person doing a very special
job.
The group’s next meeting
will be held at the home of
Mrs. Martin Swarr in
Landisville. A program of
gift wrapping will be
presented.
Fifteen members of Berks
County Farm Women
Groups 2 and 8 gathered for a
meeting at the Berks County
Ag Center. Faye Strieker,
home economist, showed the
women crafts and Christmas
decorations that can be
made for the holiday season.
Each group then met in
dividually for a brief
business meeting. Rhea

A family Christmas party
has been scheduled for
December 11 at 7 p.m. at the
Tulpehocken United Church
of Christ, Richland Rl.
