She acquired a registered Quarter Horse named Dot who “was 400 pounds underweight because we were starving her and didn’t even know it. We knew absolutely nothing about raising a horse,” the winner explained. With help from her local club leader she soon learned proper feeding, worming and grooming, but still expresses amazement that Dot sur vived. In spite of that bad start, she placed fourth out of 64 in her first attempt at showmanship.
