Dailey, a 20-year-old from
Cochranton, Crawford
County, was named the
winner of the Pennsylvania
Junior Sheep Shearing
Contest earlier this month at
the 20th Keystone In
ternational Livestock Ex
position held at the Farm
Show, here.
Dailey, using the
Australian method of
shearing, scored 88.95 out of
a possible 100 points in
shearing two sheep. Second
place with 84.00 points went
to Jay McGuier, 17,
Prosperity, Washington
County.
Contestants in the contest
were judged on time, ab
sence of second cuts, the
condition of the fleece, ab
sence of cuts on the sheep,
their manner of handling the
sheep, and final appearance
of the shorn sheep. Most of
the nine contestants, eight
boys and one girl, have
participated in sheep
shearing schools in the stave.
Entrants must be 15 to 20
years old.
As the winner of the
contest, Dailey will
represent Pennsylvania in
the National Western
Livestock Show in Denver
this January.
