Just took a brisk walk
along a fence row in search
of bittersweet berries. All
during the fall, I’ve hunted
them without success as I
had planned to use them in
dried arrangements. The
plants that usually bore
some were ripped off the
trees by people who didn’t
know what they were -
probably thought it was
poison ivy. Although during
my walk, 1 did find some odd
small blueberries which I
can’t name.
So, I shall be content with
several small arrangements

borax and was successful in
preserving petunias, mums,
salvia, marigolds, scabiosa,
cornflowers and pansies.
My daughter’s flower
project in 4-H yielded hun
dreds of straw flowers and
also dozens of deep crimson
celosia, or better known as
cockscomb, which she was
able to sell. We also
discovered a market for
white pine cones, statice or
honesty, and pheasant
feathers. Nothing like a little
pocket money.
Extension Service is plan
ning a lecture-demonstration
on this topic. The meeting
will be held on Wednesday,
December Ist. from 10:00
a.m. to noon in the Taol
Building Auditorium, corner
of 2nd and Orange Sts.
