Sectional winners awarded trips to Chicago
UNIVERSITY PARK, Ra.
- Several young adults in the
coverage area of Lancaster
Farming were recently
named northeastern United
States sectional winners in
their areas of 4-H. Those
youths are Janet Hutchison,
18, West Grove R 2, who had
been a state winner in the
entomology category of the
National 4-H Awards
Program; Joan Strode, 15, of
735 Williams Grove Road,
Mechanicsburg, who was a
state winner in the bicycle
category; and Karen Kittle,
18, Lebanon Rl, who was a
state winner in the home
environment area.
All three will receive
expense-paid trips to
National 4-H Congress in
Chicago on November 28 -
December 2. The S & H
Foundation will sponsor
Miss Kittle; Goodyear Tire
and Rubber will sponsor
Miss Struck; and Hercules
Incorporated will provide
the backing for Miss Hut
chison.

Duke University. She has
been a 4-H member for 10
years.

Grove 4-H Entomology Club
and Oxford 4-H Community
Club, she served as

secretary, treasurer, news
reporter, game leader, and.
song leader. She also served
as a leader of the entomology
club.
The state entomology
contest winner completed
projects in 10 units of en
tomology, teen leadership,
gardening, business,
clothing, foods, bicycle, and
flowers.
She-was involved in the
Chester County teen leaders
workshop, picnic, poster
contest, achievement night, Capital Days, State 4-H
fair, roundup, officers Leadership Camp, Penn
training, and entomology sylvania 4-H Leadership

She also took part in the
Regional Teen Agribusiness
Conference, Regional 4-H

Joan Strock
Joan, a sophomore at the
Mechanicsburg Area Senior
High School, has been a 4-H
member foe seven years. She
is the daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. Clyde L. Strock.

Explorers, Mechanicsburg 4-
H Community Club, and
County 4-H Recreation Club,
she served as secretary and
county council delegate. She
also directed members in
project work.
The state bicycle contest
winner completed products
in bicycle, swine, pet care,
recreation, teen leadership,
and sewing.
She also attended the
Regional 4-H Teen Leaders
Retreat, State 4-H
Achievement Days, Penn
sylvania 4-H Congress, and
Farm Show.
She was a county medalist
in recreation and bicycle
categories.
Karen RitUe
- The daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. Earl E. Kittle, Karen is
a freshman at Lebanon
Valley College. She has been
a'4-H member for nine years.
A member of the Avon-
East Lebanon 4-H Club, she
served as president,
treasurer, and news
reporter. She also was a teen
leader.
The state home en
vironment contest winner
completed projects in self
determination, design with
line, colonial foods, clothing,
home management, and teen
leadership.
In Lebanon County, she
participated in the 4-H
dress revue, day camp,
officers training, fair, and
achievement night.
She also took part in the
State 4-H Leadership
Congress, State 4-H
Achievement Days,
Citizenship Short Course,
and Regional 4-H Teen
Leaders Retreat.
She won special 4-H honors
State Grange
reelects officers
SHARON, Pa. - Delegates
to the 104th annual con
vention of the Grange, here,
reelected J. Luther Snyder,
of Camp Hill, to a two-year
term as state master. He
was elected to that position
two years ago at
Washington, Pa.
George W. Rodgers, of
Slippery Rock R 3, the
National Grange Prince, was
elected assistant steward to
succeed C. Arthur Zug, Port
Royal R 2, who had served
six years and was not
eligible for reelection to that
post.

gets nod
SYRACUSE, N.Y. - Ralph
H. Heffner of Pine Grove,
Pa., has been elected to a
second 3-year term bn the
Agway board of directors.
Heffner was elected at the
cooperative’s twelfth annual
meeting here on Oct. 28-29.
Heffner maintains a 100-
"cow dairy herd, raises
forage crops, grains, and
fruit, and operates a road
side market. He is a former
secretary of Agway’s Blue
Mountain Zone committee
and a member of the
Cressona Petroleum com
mittee.
Heffner is also president of
the Schuylkill County Fruit
Growers Association, vice
chairman of the Wayne
Planning Commission, and a
director of the Schuylkill
County DHIA.
