    New butterfat record set
BRATTLEBORO, Vt. - A
new national butterfat
production record has been
established for registered
Holstein-Friesian cows.
Breezewood Patsy Bar
Pontiac, 6174402, produced
2,230 pounds of butterfat and
47,500 pounds of 4.7 per cent
milk in 365 days, milked
twice a day. Proud owners of
this outstanding cow are the
Gelbke brothers, Henry and,
Herman, of Vienna, Ohio.

“Pontiac” not only set a
new record but had to break
her old record to do it. She
was the national milk and fat
record holder in May, 1974,
and has been the top but
terfat producer since then.
Officially, “Pontiac’s”
record stands at 41,420
pounds of milk, 4.6 percent
butterfat, 1,903 pounds of
butterfat in 305 days; 47,500
pounds of milk, 4.8 percent
butterfat and 2,230 pounds of

milking. This record was
started at 10 years, 10
months of age. Her lifetime
production total for 2,949
days is 251,729 pounds of 4.5
per cent milk and 11,222
pounds of butterfat.
During this record
breaking lactation, “Pon
tiac” was surprise-tested
five times in addition to her
regular monthly tests. Her
last test for the 365-day
record showed she was
milking 93.3 pounds of milk
testing 5.9 per cent butterfat.
“Pontiac” is classified
Excellent 93-3 E. She is sired
by Zeldenrust Royal Pon
tiac, 1397752, EX-90 and a
Silver Medal bull for type.
“Pontiac’s” dam,
Breezewood Champion
Barbara, 4291697, GP-83, is
also one of the top-producing
cows of all times. She was
second on the National
Leaders list for butterfat for
senior three-year-olds
milked twice a day and one
of very few cows to produce
six records over 1,000 pounds
of butterfat. “Pontiac’s”

daughter “Pontiac.”

Pontiac has four classified
daughters scored at 88
points, 79 points and two at 86
points. All produce high
testing milk like -thler dam.
One daughter, “Milly”, just
completed a junior three
year-old record which ranks
her third for fat in the nation.
With this record-breaking
lactation, “Pontiac” takes
over several positions on the
National Production Leaders
list. She has the first three
places for butterfat in the
mature cow, 2X division,
both 305 days and 365 days;
she takes the third and
fourth places for milk in the
mature cow, 2X division;
both 305 and 365 days; she
becomes one of 30 cows with
five lactations over 1,000
pounds of butterfat and she
becomes one of 19 cows with
three lactations over 30,000
pounds of milk.
The Gelbke brothers are
planning a party November
6, at their farm, to celebrate
“Pontiac’s” achievements.
