Compared with the
previous week’s close:
prices on slaughter steers
and heifers were 50-75 lower,
instances 1.00 lower through
midweek, but limited late
sales were steady. Cows
were 1.50-2.50 lower, bulls
firm to 1.00 higher.
Four day receipts 15,100 as
compared 10,500 previous
week and 15,900 a year ago.
After a stable-initial session,
fed cattle prices were forced
downward, partially in
reaction to the sharp ad
vance scored the previous
week as carcass prices
declined the forepart of the
week. Midweek trading .was
uneven as a bearish early
demand gave way to a mild
aggressiveness in reflection
of the uptrendmg carcass
trade. Most interests were in
need of cattle for immediate
requirements early, but
were generally cautious and
selective as they sought to
hold live prices m line with
changing carcass
realizations. Marketings
were moderately increased
over previous week but still
were of modest proportions.
The overall finish was again
attractive with a liberal
percentage choice steers and
heifers included, and still
several loads 3-5 1300-1600 lb.
steers. Slaughter steers
made up approximately 8
per cent and feeders 28 per
cent.
