Two Chester Co, girls win state 4-H awards UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Two Chester County young adults, who have compiled outstanding records in 4-H work, today were named state contest winners in the 1976 4-H National Awards program. They are Kay Minshall, 17, of RDI, Avondale, winner in breads; and Janet Hut chison, 18, of RD2, West Grove winner in entomology. Kay will receive an ex pense-paid trip to National 4- H Congress in Chicago, November 28-December 2, and Janet will be eligible to attend the Chicago event. She taught eight cooking projects during the past five years. The state breads contest winner complete projects in eight units of foods and nutrition, sewing, photography, recreation, home improvement, teen leadership, bicycle, en tomology, automotive, creative arts, and business. In Chester County, she took part in 4-H dress revue, officers training, public speaking, leaders camp, roundup, picnic, and achievement night. Kay also participated in the Regional 4-H Dress Revue, Regional 4-H Demonstration Day, District 4-H Horse Show, Penn sylvania 4-H Leadership Congress, State 4-H Achievement days, Farm Show, and Citizenship Short Course. She was a Keystone 4-H Awards winner in breads, foods and nutrition, out standing girl, and dress revue. She also won county 4- H awards in clothing, en tomology, and baking. In 1974 she was selected as the Outstanding 4-H Girl in Chester County, was winner of the Danforth “I Dare You” Award, and was a Keystone 4-H Award winner in entomology, citizenship, and outstanding girl. “4-H has made me aware of my duty to others. It also has given me the poise and confidence to communicate with others at all levels,” she said.
