chosen for its thicker ham
area, meatiness, and freer
walking ability. To get the
animal in top shape, the boys
exercised it every day for
two weeks.
The brothers’ track record
is fairly good for the three
years they have now been
showing. In 74 when they
first began, they took a first
and second place at the
Harrisburg Farm Show, then
in 75 they had two third

showman, Benue Gish, 593
East Hummelstown St ,
Elizabethtown, is an oddity
of sorts. “Benue” is really
the shortened version of the
name “Bernadine,” so
Benue is a girl - and one of
the few girls to place in hog
shows at the Lancaster
County fairs this season.
This 16-year-old
brownette, who is the
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. H.
Eugene Gish, has been
showing her animals for
three or four years now with
