Archery season
HARRISBURG, Pa. -
Pennsylvania’s 1976-77
hunting seasons for big game
will get underway when
archers begin hunting
whitetail deer one-half hour
before sunrise today.
More than one-fourth of all
of the nation’s archery
hunters purchase licenses in
Pennsylvania. Last year,
there were a record 215,727
archery licenses sold in the
state, an increase of about
13,000 over the preceding
year.
During the 1975-76 seasons
archers reported harvesting
a record 5,061 deer in Penn
sylvania. The Keystone State

My Thouqht* and Welcome to Tfiem
(Wrfh apologies to James Thurher)
again has a large herd of
whitetails in 1976.
There will be 24 hunting
days during the regular
statewide archery deer
season which closes on
October 29, one day before
the opening of the general
small game season. Sunday
hunting is prohibited.
An extended 18-day ar
chery deer season is
scheduled to begin on
December 27 and to end on
January 15.
Use of bow and arrow is
also permitted during the
regular antlered and an
tlerless seasons in late
November and December.
Lancaster Farming. Saturday. Oct 2.1976
doubled as a fire siren A lazy steer had decided to
lean up against her while she leaned up against the
wall Needless to say, it was a tight situation and a
slightly uncomfortable one at that It took only few
seconds, however, for experienced farmers to move
the steer and solve the problem That is, until a
show steer decided to run rampant through the
crowd Again, it was a scramble and a mad dash to
get to safety, which, fortunately. I was expert at by
now
When the disturbance had abated, I looked up to
find another chicken just like myself cowering in a
safe spot not far away We looked at each other
with total understanding “You know," he said with
an expressionless face, “nothing exciting ever
happens around here"
begins
Archers are permitted to
take one deer of either sex,
regardless of size. If a hunter
bags a deer during the ar
chery season, he is not
permitted to take another
whitetail during the regular
gunning season. Hunting
hours for bowmen are from
one-half hour before sunrise
until sunset.
In addition to a regular
resident or non-resident
bunting license, an archery
license is required to hunt
deer with bow and arrow
during the archery seasons.
Archery licenses are
available from county
treasurers, archery license
issuing agents, or by mail
only from the Pennsylvania
Game Commission, License
Section, P. 0. Box 1567,
Harrisburg, Pa. 17120. An
archery license costs $2.20.
