Anderson advances at Holstein show
There wasn’t a bad one in this as winners, .iderson is the son of

Holstein Show, and they all came up
By DIETER KRIEG
YORK The odds were
against Carl Anderson even
winning one first place, if
one figures strength strictly
in terms of numbers. With
just three animals at the
Fair, and the best Holstein
breeders in York County
represented, one might think
that an 18-year old student
has little chance to come up
with a winner.
Carl Anderson didn’t come
up with a winner. He came
up with three and in a big
way.
The young man from
Spring Grove had the first
place 2-year old, the first and
second place 3-year olds, the
reserve grand champion, the
second-place dairy herd, and
the cow with the second-best
udder.
The son of Mr. and Mrs.
Carl Anderson, Jr., Carl is
currently a student at Penn
State’s York campus. With
animal sciences as his major
field of study, he hopes one
day to enter a career in
either dairy farming or
veterinary medicine. In
addition to his : mdies, young
Anderson helps out at his
home farm regularly. Even
while attending college, he
milks the family’s herd of 50
cows morning and evening.
Furthermore, he helps out
with field work whenever he
can.
Cows and dairy farming
are Anderson’s main in
terests, which might explain
why he’s such an ac
complished showman. “I
like registered Holsteins a
lot, I enjoy farming and
working with cows,” he
remarked Thursday night.
Asked if there might be
anything he does not like
about farming, Anderson
grinned broadly and an
swered “no,” and with the
same smile added, “I guess
when you have good cows
like that, it makes it a little
better.”
Anderson’s reserve grand
champion, a daughter of
“Round Oak Rag Apple
Elevation,” placed second to
a cow exhibited by Paul and
Cathy King of Delta.
The junior champion of the
show belonged to Cindy
Knight, while the reserve
honors in that division went
to Rodman Thompson.
More than 1700 head of
livestock were at the York
Fair this year, with
registered Holsteins strongly
represented.
