Because Samuel was the
only son of Elizabeth and
Amos Skllcs, he was a direct
heir to the property.
“But that is where the
“passing down” tradition
stops,” notes Kenneth.
“Since I have a brother, I
purchased the farm,” he
continues.
That was four years ago,
the same time the family
began the remodeling.
At the present time, the
farm, like the house is un
dergoing change Consisting
of 113 acres of mostly com
and alfalfa and a 60-cow
dairy operation - mostly
registered Holsteins - , it is
about to become the object a
partnership. Skiles’ son
Jere, who went to dairy
herdsman trade school in
Wisconsin, would like to go
into business with his father,
and they hope to be able to do
it by next year.
Also, the Skiles family is
now in the process of
building a new ( -dairy bam.
So, just like (heir house,
the Skiles family farming
operation moves into the
future by building onto the
past.
